Hamachi is a free, easy-to-use VPN (Virtual Private Network). It runs on your computer in the background and it enables you to make a secure, private connection to any other Source-Connect Pro user. With Hamachi you don't need to configure your network or worry about open ports, so it's the perfect companion for travelling with your Source-Connect Pro setup to connect back to the studio or to an ISDN bridging service.
Need help getting started? Hamachi support is not included with basic Source-Connect support. If you
would like our support team to assist you with your Hamachi installation please review the Advanced Support guidelines:
This guide is to show you how to use the Hamachi application so you can work with Source-Connect Pro in VPN Mode.
First, we need to install and configure Hamachi. If you already have Hamachi installed and are ready to connect, see Part 2
Requirements:
To install Hamachi on Windows XP see the comprehensive guide at Logmein.com. Continue below for an installation guide on OSX.
In order to connect with other peers hamachi first needs to connect to and register with the hamachi root server. To do so hit the Connect button in case you are not logged on to the server at the time.
If you are not connected right now, click on the button. After a few moments it should appear like this:
Enter a nickname (anything you choose, but no spaces), and close the Preferences window by clicking on the top left circle.
Now you need to connect to a network so you can work with others. Click on the 'Add' button:
This will bring up the Network Assistant window
a) If you are the person creating a new network, enter any network name and select 'Create Network' (the third option). Provided the network name you are trying to use does not exist already, you will see your new network in the main window. If the network name already exists, try another network name.
b) If you have been given a network name by someone else to connect to, enter the network name. Then select 'Join Network', then click on 'Add'.
You can now close the Assistant window. You should see the network you just added at the left of the main window.
Note 1: Here you are choosing your own network that will be shared with your group of contacts. Source Elements does not maintain a 'source-elements' network in order to ensure your connections are private.
Note 2: We recommend you avoid the option 'Create network on demand' as it has been known to cause issues where users can no longer see each other.
Congratulations, you are now ready to connect via VPN Mode in Source-Connect Pro.
If you have connected to a network, or you know someone has connected to your network but
you can't see them, you probably just need to reboot your computer.
To use Source-Connect Pro in VPN Mode with Hamachi, see Part 2

On OSX it can commonly happen that the Hamachi background processes fail. If you do not have an IP address/ID like '5.xxx.xxx.xxx' at the top of the main Hamachi windows or you are not seeing any of your Contacts online with a green light, you should reset the Hamachi server:
Go the the Help menu->System Support. Select 'Reset Hamachi Background Process'. This should reset Hamachi and restart it internally. If you still have no ID/IP address, try Uninstalling the system components, restarting, and the Installing again from the Help->System Support menu.
If you are still having problems contact Support.
